New I-9
The new I-9 was issued by the USCIS on Friday, March 8th.
Some Key Changes that were made include...
Expanding the form's instructions, from three pages to six pages.
Revising the layout of the Form I-9, and expanding it from one page to two pages (with the employee completing page 1 and the employer completing page 2).
Adding fields in Section 1 for the employee to provide their telephone and e-mail addresses. An employee may write "N/A" if they chose not to provide this information.
In the field below the Section 2 introduction, employers must enter the last name, first name and middle initial, if any, that the employee entered in Section 1 (to help identify the pages of the form should they get separated).
Adding an additional data field in Section 2 to include the employee's foreign passport information (if applicable).
Specifically stating in the Lists of Acceptable Documents that Social Security Account Number cards are not acceptable if it includes any one of the following restrictions: (1) "Not Valid for Employment;" (2) "Valid for Work Only with INS Authorization;" or (3) "Valid for Work Only with DHS Authorization."
